David Bowie

David Bowie

The city of Monsummano Terme is the first in Italy to name a public place after David Bowie. It is the wonderful park of Villa Renatico Martini, the 19th century jewel, currently belonging to the Municipality, and transformed into one of the most famous Contemporary and 20th century art Museums at regional level.

To celebrate the 50th anniversary of the historical Italian debut of the singer who held his concert in Monsummano in 1969, Monday 20 May 2019 the public park became David Bowie Park. In fact, in August 1969, when he was only twenty years old, the singer from Brixton, participated in the song contest “Festival Internazionale del Disco”, organised at the Chalet of Monsummano Terme by the Cultural Association “Giuseppe Giusti”, with the song “When I live my dreams” from his first album.

Among the events dedicated to the great British artist and his music production, we must mention the concert of the extraordinary jazz band led by Paolo Fresu, held on 21 May with the participation of Gianluca Petrella trombone and electronic processing, Petra Magoni voice, Francesco Diodati guitar, Francesco Ponticelli electric bass, and Christian Meyer drums. A unique music project created specifically for Monsummano Terme.

This project was ideated and organised by Officine della Cultura, cultural production cooperative, and realised by the Municipality of Monsummano Terme, and it will continue every year with scheduled events, in order to become a reference point for all the fans of the great artist.
